When auditioning each of the young actors you will see onstage today, I gave them a simple prompt: “Tell me a quick story of a time when life threw more at you than you thought you could handle.” For me, what ties these stories and songs together is that, at their core, they are about coping with life’s…funny little moments… How we handle rejection, how we handle anxiety or fear, how we handle the thrill of being in love, and how we handle…some pesky pigeons that are lingering in the park.
I invite you to lean into the most simple and quintessential elements of theatre: the actors, the stories and music, and a shared suspension of disbelief. Watch as these brilliant young actors use a mostly barren space to transport you to a different time and place. Our piece highlights the magic of storytelling in its simplest form and invites you to fill in some of the blanks for yourself—and practically begs you to laugh while doing it. Unplug, relax, and enjoy the show.
